Thinking about jumping on a good deal and upgrading from my current 2600X to a 3900X, but I'm wondering if my PSU is gonna be able to handle that increase. I have the CX650M currently running with the specs in my sig. I of course am running a 2080 and 2600x right now, do you think an x570 mobo and a 3900x is going to push my psu over it's limits? TIA

Yeah when I used a PSU calculator, and I put everything in and put the cpu at 100% TDP it said that max load was 609 W, with a recommendation of 650W power supply. I just didn't know if maybe someone had experience with a 3900x or similar on a 650W PSU and if it would be throttled at all. Idk
You're only increasing CPU power by 10 watts. It's not a big deal. You don't need more power. Higher quality would be good though.

Yes, it can handle it but you're talking about using a low-budget entry-level power supply with what will become a high end build. Not the best idea considering your investment in components. You should already be using a better PSU with a RTX 2080.

Good PSU actually, but it's only 650W, and not honest 650W, so be really careful with overlocking and kinda things
Right, but if I'm running a 3900x out of the box, do you think I'll run into problems with the psu? Or do you think 650W is enough, considering I actually have a decent psu haha

Edit: wording

Well, I very unliked CX500 after 1 case ... cause it's CWT platform and they were jumping between platform manufacturers, but your PSU is CX650M and it's better, I wonder can it mere hold this system normally, maybe you can write all info about your PC in PSU calculator, I believe 650W is fine, but something tells me it should be 700W (something like be quiet! Pure Power 11 CM 700W) if you are going for 3900X + 2080

I just had 3700X + 2060 computer assembly for one man, and I've bought that, dunno, 650 really hurts my heart when I think about it and machine working in some games and you like knowing that is 650W and he might choke a bit

I mean, if your PSU is okay, you're not gonna see artefacts from the ripple or it's not going to turn off, it's good, your CX650M is from fine party then, you have all protections on it, if you will see PSU is choking, you can change to 700-750, but for now it's okay untill it's okay! But anyway recommended test it in Furmark or kinda, for 5 min and check with HWMonitor how much power PC eatin'
