can my psu handle r9 280x

Hey guys i about to buy r9 280x gigabyte or asus but the problem with me is can my psu antec neopower 550 HE (high efficiency) handle this gpu

Cannot, recommended PSU for R9 280x is 600W (Would not recommend bad brands) Get XFX, Seasonic, EVGA
Tier 2 PSU would be better for high end cards.
Anyway post up your CPU, to make sure it won't bottleneck the CPU

The antec is a very good PSU - age & condition would be the only contributing factor going against it (unless you're running an fx 9*** CPU)

Bear in mind (fairly sure) it only has 2 x 6 pin power cables & 99.99% of 280x's need a 8 pin & 6 pin so an adapter is needed.

yes, antec are trustworthy psu's, it will handle the 280x so long as the rest of your system has modest psu requirements, eg no 8 core 220w psu or 10 HDDs.

Masterdell - the fx 9000 CPU's drag between 200-240w so for any decent GPU With one of those Id be looking at 600w minimum personally.

Oh okay, I thought you were meaning that if you have a FX 9xxx then you would have less PSU aging. That's why I was a little confused.

290x cannot be used with a 550w unit. The card alone draws 300w.

Yes it can, the manufacturer will always give a higher estimate of wattage to cover their backs.

You can run a 290x off a good 550W (XFX/Seasonic/Antec) as long as you have the 6/8 pin connectors and 35A minimum on the 12V rail. They card at max will draw about 250-300W at stock volts and load.

It would be safer to just get a 600/650W however.. just wanted to say it can be done
