Well, I have a Chieftec A80 500w, and I wonder if it can run a 280x, 7970 or a gtx 760 ? Atm, my conf is : 2500k, vengeance cl9 2x4gb, Seagate 500gb 64mb 7200rpm and a Kingston 60gb v300 + Gigabyte GTX 560 which will be changed by one of the above.

Hence, can my PSU run this config. or is it absolutely necessary to buy a new supply ?

Just because you never hear of it does not make it junk. Chieftec power supplies are mostly made by CWT ( they also make most Corsair PSUs ) and Sirtec both very good OEMs. There are no reviews of the A80 500w unit but the A80 600w units gets very good reviews from Xbitlabs who put it in the same category as the Antec HCG 620.

So you are all good for a GTX 760. An HD 7970 needs a recommended 550 watts and an R9 280X needs a recommended 600 watts. Although the 280X is just a rebranded 7970 it has a higher potential voltage and can pull 300 watts all by itself in some circumstances.
