Can my "Super Budget PC" run modern games on Med-High Settings?

Here are my specs for my "Super Budget PC".

APU: A8-3870k

Motherboard: AMD GA-A75M-S2V

RAM: 4GB Corsair Vengance RAM. 1600MHz.

PSU: 600W ATX Power Supply.



Just like the thread asks, I'm simply wondering if this setup can run modern games at decent settings and frame rates.

Though this is a second priority, I was wondering if this Mobo and APU setup can overclock.

A8-3780k has integrated 6550d gpu.

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm waiting for my parts to come. I looked at some youtube videos and the a8 runs pretty good. It can run dirt 3 at low-med, I saw a video running syndicate on max and another running skyrim at ultra with a little tweaks. I'd suggest a 6670 like I'm getting, when you hybrid crossfire the 6670 with the a8, you can play dirt 3 on max 60fps(saw on youtube) and a bunch of other modern games.

All this can be played with just the a8(according to youtube though) I'll find some videos for you.

23 fps(while fraps was running so without fraps it's probably 30 fps) but a little tweaks to medium then you'll get 30-45 fps for sure or more if you turn down more graphics.

so yeah this apu is amazing. I don't have my pc built yet because I'm waiting for my parts but according to these videos, this apu can run a bunch of good games at good fps.

actually m8 that bf3 vid is mostly on low. he has turned off most of the high end features which are pretty much everything to do with lighting. having the mesh and details on high has little impact on fps while shadows can crumple your fps.
please dont oversell the a8. it is good and will perform as-well as say an xbox 360. but dont go promising things that it just cant do... it plays bf3 on medium low settings no medium high.

syndicate is on medium settings. in that vid. look at the shadows and how jaggy they are. on high settings there smooth edged.
its pretty damn good for what it is but really if you want to play games, be realistic or your gonna be disappointed.
amd managed to get an extra 20% out of the apu by mixing gpu and cpu tasks in a very optimized way. this resulted in a better all in 1 than intel have. but when you throw in a dedicated gfx card then that optimization may be disabled and your stuck with the same underpowered amd hardware that they normally produce. you may get a benefit from using an ati card but i dunno if thats a fact though.

Well all the stuff I said are based off videos I watched, I don't even have my pc yet, on bf3, in the description, the only thing he said he turned on low is terrain decoration, shadow is on medium and texture is on high.

And for syndicate, that guy said all high so I guessed that ment max.

Alright, so we all figure that the A8-3870k will run most games at decent settings. (Mid-Low/Mid-High). Can anyone tell me the overclocking capability of the mobo? Or am I going to have to make a new thread in the overclock section?

An A8 using the onboard graphics will not play modern games. You may get away with some older titles, but most certainly not BF3. A dedicated GTX550Ti will run it on medium, not onboard.

To be perfectly honest for a gaming rig the APU's just aren't a good option. You need a dedicated card plain and simple. I would take a Pentium or maybe i3 + a low end dedicated card any day for gaming.

Wut? Why an i3? Get a phenom II X4 965 BE. Cheaper than the best i3, clock-for-clock performs the same, but has 4 cores instead of the I3's two.
