Can NAS HDD or Purple HDD be used in an ordinary HDD enclosue ??

Hello everyone

I thought about using NAS Re HDDs or Purple HDDs from WD as a long term backup storage medium. However, my question is whether the HDD is going to function normally like any ordinary HDD in an ordinary HDD enlclosure or not ?!

Is that enclosure dependent, and works for some enclosures and does not for some others ?!

Reds are meant for 24/7 use, purple more for surveillance capture. Both will work fine.

How would the Purple HDDs be different if they are made for survailance capture. I mean, in surveillance recording the HDD works for 24/7, non-stop, just like NAS HDDs do.

Isn't that true ?

Especially that the WD Re HDD can be utilized for both NAS and surveillance. So, where does the difference lay exactly, especially in lower-end HDDs, as in the case of the Purple vs. Red ?!

Surveilance might (for instance) be better a very long sustained writes, be optimised for massive file sizes. It'll all be in the firmware generally, take for instance shingled drives, externally very similar, but much bigger capacities, very poor write speeds, good read speeds.
