Hello everyone

I thought about using NAS Re HDDs or Purple HDDs from WD as a long term backup storage medium. However, my question is whether the HDD is going to function normally like any ordinary HDD in an ordinary HDD enlclosure or not ?!

Is that enclosure dependent, and works for some enclosures and does not for some others ?!

Thanks in advance

surveillance drives are tuned for constant writing, non stop writing, and the occasianal read. they are not designed for fast retreival of data, so they are slow when it comes to read. nas drives have both the long life and they are meant for faster retreival than the surveillance drives.
the differences are relatively minor between the drives. minor but important.
it is still a hard drive. much like a snow plough can carry people, being a people carrier is not its best use. the NAS drives have been enhanced to thrive in a very specific environment, that you would find in a NAS. certain parts are replaced with higher quality to extend the drives life.
it will work fine in any PC or enclosure that you wish to use.

Thanks for your reply

How would NAS drives be different than Surveillance drives (Purple HDD), if both are made to work for 24/7, non-stop ?!

If there is no significant difference, then the surveillance drives development is pointless.

Any thoughts ?!

Thanks again

Thanks again for your reply mate

What I understand from what you said, is that Surveillance drives feature continuous operation, much like NAS, without the luxury of good reading performance, most probably to cut cost, and possibly with a little better writing performance if I am not mistaken.

Am I correct ?!
