Hello,
i have an old pc with a msi motherboard. i pressed the cmos clear button and then it does not load bios.
the screen shows msi logo and do nothing. I press the del button but i can not go to the set up page of the bios. the only thing is working is the f-lock key of the keyboard. i pull out all the cables and put it back but nothing happed.
does anyone have an idea thats is going wrong?
thanks for your time

not loading the bios at all is odd following reset to defaults (clear).

Suggest you get the manual from MSI and see if there is a jumper that does a deeper reset of the BIOS. Was the button just to reset overclocking values or did it totally reset?

Standard debugging is to make sure you are getting power. Do fans start up? Especially the fan in the power supply. If so, make sure the monitor cable is plugged into correct video out on PC (don't laugh, i've done it). Did the cmos clear revert to integrated graphic adapter ?

Is the cmos clear button inside the case? If so what did you touch in the case?

Remove everything USB attached and see if it posts. post = power on self test. that whats the bios does when loads before it boots. You want to see the video card light up your monitor.

Please try some of this stuff and tell us what is happening.

p.s. I'm assuming you really mean "does not load bios" if you meant "windows wouldn't boot' then there are some bios updates win7 & vista needed done to older bios in order to boot. (i think power management, achi, not sure). if you get thru bios and windows is the problem let us know.

eventually the cmos clear button isnt the problem.
I started to disable the components of the pc.
I unplug the hard disk, then the flopy, cd drive, the wireless adapter and at last the memory. Without memory the bios is loading. then i plug them all back and the pc is working again.
I think the problem was dust in the memory's slot.
thank you tsnor for your quick answer
