Can nVidia drivers break a GPU ?

Since the release of the newest nVidia drivers, yesterday, I kept getting blackscreen and artifacts forcing me to cold restart the computer.

Now, I cannot load to Windows if I have drivers installed on my 780 GTX.
The only way I can get to the desktop is by uninstalling drivers or using the on-board gpu.

If I'm using my GPU, I get new green rectangles during the startup, which never happened before today.

I have tried several drivers that I know worked in the past, nothing can restore my GPU.
So I put the blame on those 361 drivers released yesterday.

Thank you,

I posted my problem in this topic and completed the survey as well.

But, how is it possible that after using DDU and installing the drivers from my CD (which always worked before), I can't load to the desktop anymore ?
It happened with the latest drivers, so I decided to revert, thinking the problem would go away, but no.

No, new drivers did not break your card. Try to rule out other possibilities, but first do the drivers all again. Uninstall with DDU, including the safe boot. Then do a clean install the next to most recent drivers, NOT the very outdated ones on your CD. I know you've probably done all that, but one more try can't hurt.

Are you using Afterburner or some other GPU software? Be sure to hit the reset button to make sure your settings are all back to default.

Then start to check out your wiring inside your case, particularly the power cords feeding your GPU/ Re-seat your video card in the PCIe slot. Rule out as many things as you can, because the likelihood of drivers hurting your card permanently are pretty much non-existent. In any event, you can't get anywhere if you accepted that was the problem, so assume it's not and try to rule out other problems.

What kind of power supply do you have?
