Solution
If you're concerned about dayz or the arma series they are all cpu hogs, so drop the 980 for a 970 and upgrade to an i7, it'll serve you much better.

Eh, he can overclock that CPU and be fine in that department. My R9 290 chugs down to mid 20's in bigger cities at 2560x1440 in DayZ. Otherwise he'll have no problem playing either game with respectable framerates at 1080 with that setup.
