Can only install nvidia drivers through device manager?

I am unable to install nvidia drivers through the windows device manager, by going into "update driver" and then manually selecting the nvidia folder.

If I try to install it through geforce experience or with driver files from the nvidia site, it will fail. This still happens if I completely uninstall it using Display Driver Uninstaller.

I had the same problem with the previous nvidia driver, but after reinstalling windows that disappeared. Now, with the new driver, the same issue persists.

What's going on?

last time i saw a problem like this, it was related to the ram and the hard disk misbehaving

what os?

what gpu, the specs of your machine could help

i7 6700K
2x GTX 970 SLI
Asus z170 pro gaming
2x 8GB corsair vengeance 3000mhz
kingston 128gb ssd (C-drive)
samsung evo 850 500gb ssd
toshiba 2tb hdd

on windows 10 or what os?

from where did you downloaded the driver?

to be sure run ddu to wipe any driver on your machine related to gpus

Have you disabled Windows ability to install Hardware Drivers ? This needs to be the 1st step in troubleshooting driver issues in Windows:

What happens when you try and install the driver in one of the more conventional ways ?
