Can Optical Cables Be Used For Voice?

So I'm using Astro A40's but without the mixamp, bad mic quality on th mix amp, and I'm wondering if my Optical cable can be used to input my voice?

I want to buy a sound card for my PC so I can get 7.1 surround, my optical cable is 3.5mm on 1 side and Optical Male end on the other, bad phrasing I know.

So If I put the optical cable going from my headset to my PC and into the optical port, can it transfer my voice?

Also is there a splitter I can get for my headset with all the jacks I need on it so I can have say 6 jacks for audio and 1 for my mic on the end of it.

I'm new to sound technicalities so I don't have a clue, if you have any suggestions on what to do, fire them at me

Usually on PC, optical is output only from the PC side of things. Only a few high end audio-recording sound cards have optical input.

You need a sound card with an Optical in, such as:

Then of course the mic needs to be optical, which I don't believe the A40 is. Optical is not bidirectional. SO in the end, you would also need a new headset with an optical mic.
