Hey. So i have this dell optiplex 780 that i want to put an Intel i5 into it. Would it be able to run it? If not, what can i do?

Solution
No, you'd have to replace the motherboard. And if the front panel connector is that dell proprietary one--you'd need a new case. And new PSU. Generally: new computer if you want the i5.

shoot. Okay thank you. Could you recommend the best quad core CPU i could get for my system?
I use it for gaming mostly. Playing games like Skyrim, Elder scrolls online, Borderlands 2, and other stuff like that.
Thanks.

found one for $60. Thinking i could overclock it 3.00

Check this out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Q8400-Core-2-Quad-SLGT6-2-66GHz-4M-Cache-05A-LGA775-CPU-Processor-/201090892237?pt=CPUs&hash=item2ed1f381cd

The Q8400 is a lot like the Q9650 with the newer architecture, and it is 2 years newer and better than CPUs like the Q6600 that cost about the same. The Q8400 costing just $50 is a steal and should boost your computer significantly.

What CPU do you have now? Let's make sure this will even be an upgrade. The Dell Optiplex 780 is still pretty modern.

Hope that helps!
