Can overclocked GTX 970, equal stock 1060 6GB performance ?

I recent started using two GTX 1060 6GB GPUs in two family computers. But now I'm wondering if I could have achieved the same performance with used 970's, which I could overclock.

No, the 1060 6GB trades blows with a GTX 980 and is faster than a 970.

You could have achieved good performance, but not the same. In the past Nvidias old cards dropped about 1 step in performance compared to the new ones, but with the 10xx series the performance jump was bigger than usual.
