Can Photo injet printers print text?

I'm looking for a printer, and I'm not so sure what I should get.
I've never really own a personal printer, since I've always had access to network lasers while I was in school. Now that I'm out of the school, I sometimes find myself wishing that I have a printer so I can quickly print an email out or something. Also ever since I got a digital camera, I can only see them on my computer, so I also wish maybe sometimes I can print a few high quality 5X7 pictures out to put it in a frame or put it in my cubicle wall at work.

So anyways, I probably won't use this printer a lot, just occasionally a text page or two when i'm not at work, but most of the time I would probably be using it for photo printing.

And I really don't care about the speed at which it prints, I'm willing to wait a little longer if that's what it takes to get good photos.

So I guess my questions is should I be looking for a inkjet printer or would a photo printer work better in this case? Can a photo printer actually print text that's good enough to read?

Thanks for any advice,
Amy

Photo printers are actually often if not always inkjet printers. They should have no problem producing clear text.

As arrow said, photo printer's are inkjets. There are more esoteric technologies, like dye-sublimation, but not for home use.

There was a time when the average inkjet's text quality was pretty poor. I used to use a laser for text, reserving the inkjet just for photo's. These days though, even a budget inkjet is capable of razor sharp text. I use a HP Photosmart 1215 which is superb.

For a more modest outlay, I recommend the Canon S600, HP Deskjet 940C or Epson Stylus Photo 810 (which is slow but capable of stunning quality for the price).

Thanks for the input.
I had to choose between the Canon 630 (can't find a 600 anywhere except used on ebay), and the epson stylus photo 820. According to tomshardware and smartcomputing review (probably others as well) the espon 820 is a injet design for photo printing, but can still do reasonable text priting. Also epson is running a $50 rebate for the 820, so I could get it for $135-50 =$85 vs. the canon 630 for $159.99. I decided to get the Epson. And then spend the saving on the scanner I need to buy.

I have an epson stylus 850, prints FAST both photos and text, photos are just like the real thing- you cannot tell (depending on the original image of course!!) A friend of mine recently bought an epson photo 860, this is SLOWER than mine, and the quality is the same.

If they squeeze olives to get olive oil, how do they get baby oil?
