Yes, Seagates reporting is a bit weird.

However....whether it says good or bad, you NEED a known good backup.
Drives, of any make or model, can go from perfect to dead quite quickly.

Currently, I have a 16TB Toshiba Enterprise back at Tosh for a warranty replacement..
7 months old, went from seemingly NO issues to going bad as reported by my NAS and then Windows, in about 4 days.

Previous, a 3TB WD went from perfect to absolutely dead in about 36...

Define "idle"
Just because you are not using it does not mean the OS is also not using it.

Indexing, write back, etc.

So yes...random disconnection can corrupt the data.
Here is my experience: I plugged in my external hdd and after a few seconds when it autorun/autoplay it suddenly disconnect and reconnects back again. My external hdd is set to Quick Removal policy which disabled write caching. Can data still be corrupted? No read/write happening?

Don't wait for SMART or other reporting to start protecting your data.

My concerns are Read Error Rate and Seek Error Rate because of their high numbers. Then Command Timeout is 4 supposed to be 0. Are these numbers ok?
