I asks the question:
Can I use the word record instead the words log in or sign up or register button?
(To register to website)
I get explanation from a person that the this word is not appropriate. Why?

its not really the correct word

record means:
  • to store sounds or moving pictures using electronic equipment so that they can be heard or seen later:
  • to keep information for the future, by writing it down or storing it on a computer
  • If a device records a measurement, it shows that measurement:

I think a better word might be Apply

Subscribe could work, it depends if there is a payment involved.

each of those words tends to mean something different in the world of websites.

log-in means i already have an account on your site and wish to access it.

sign-up generally means i don't have an account but i wish to create one. it is also used when telling a site i wish to receive your newsletter or other communication.

register can also mean creating an account the same as sign-up but i tend to see it for sites where i am conducting business or some other more official usage.

i registered for my insurance account but only signed up for my account here on tom's. it is subtle but each has its own implications.

as other have said record does not mean the same as any of these is more about saving information in one way or another.

I dare to say it would be a bit confusing for the users to have "record" in this context. You could consider using a more common word here.
