Hello,

I recently bought a nice-ish gaming laptop to embark on a quest to PC Gaming. It is equipped with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2060 and a 144hz display. I love the laptop, Lenovo Legion 7 if you're curious.

But I just recently bought a new display. It's ultra wide and supposed to support 144hz as well, but I can't seem to configure it appropriately.

At 3440x1440 the maximum refresh rate I set in Windows is 100hz. At 2560x1440, I can hit 120hz.

The monitor and my laptop support HDMI 2.0, which should be fast enough for 1440p 144hz. My laptop has only an HDMI port, or else I would certainly just switch to DisplayPort cable.

Do you think this is more likely to be the GPU, the monitor or my cable?

Solution
100Hz is maximum for Hdmi 2.0. 2.1 can achieve higher if it was implemented.

Input Hdmi in the output field and see table.

What laptop do you have? Fyi, if laptop has USBc 3.1 gen 2 port, it's possible to use this to Displayport cable.
