Can someone explain the different AMD families to me?

I know Intel has Sandy, Ivy, and Haswell, and I know how to tell the difference between the three by looking at the model number, but it seems a bit more complicated with AMD. Can anyone explain the different names AMD uses and how to tell them apart? Thanks.
