Can someone explain the IBM 120GXP

does anybody know or have information on this series of ibm hds and does anybody know of reviews anywhere done on them. THanks

Incidentally I looked up the link and found the available models numbers:

IC35L020AVVA07, IC35L040AVVA07, IC35L060AVVA07, IC35L080AVVA07, IC35L100AVVA07, IC35L120AVVA07

You can see each one has anumber in the middle "020, 040" etc. Those nubers indicate 20GB and 40GB etc. Meaning these models can be as high as 120GB. Not sure if they'll be six platters though. They would be a bit hot & noisy.

nope. the 120gxp is based on the 40Gb per platter density, like the top of the line maxtors.
so 120gb = 3platters
80 gb = 2 platters
40 gb = 1 platter
and
20 gb = 1 platter, but only use 1 side or 50% of both sides. (bit of a waste really)

dont think we will see many more 5 platter drives, too noisy & hot & problem prone... and u dont need them, not with 40gb per platter densities.

The only loyalties i have is to Performance, Cost
