Hey, I'm just putting together a new gaming rig and am looking to get 16gb ram, but I can't decide between 2 different ones.... Gskill ripjaws x 2133mhz or Gskill trident x 2400mhz or does anyone have any better suggestions for gaming ram?

Generally speaking any solid 1600mhz kit with good timings (9-9-9-24 for example) should do.
See http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/memory-bandwidth-latency-gaming,3409.html for more information on how RAM speed affects gaming (or usually doesn't beyond 1600, with limited exceptions).

If you have money to blow and just want to the best, Ripjaws and Tridents are both fine.
Check your mobo's QVL (qualified vendor list) to see which sets are compatible, and then simply choose from there. Generally you want higher speeds with lower timings for highest performance.

You can purchase RAM that isn't on the QVL, but ones on the QVL are much more likely to receive vendor support if any issues come up--which is more likely to happen when you start getting into higher speeds and adjusting timings.

Cheers!! Alright yeh both of the gskill ram are on the qvl, but I've heard mixed reviews about the trident x 2400 some say they're amazing some said they're terrible ad a waste of money, so I don't know what to believe, I don't really have much of a budget so I'm looking to get something really good that will last a few years so I'm looking to spend quite a bit I guess, but why would you suggest for the best gaming ram? With low timings. In new to building computers and understanding all of it so I don't really understand the timings in the ram or what anything means haha I just throught the higher the MHz the bette it would be? :/

Alright, I've got a asus sabertooth z77 mobo and a i5 3570k CPU il be looking to overclock it pretty high with a corsair h100i closed loop cpu liquid cooler and radiator, I've got EVGA GTX 660 Ftw signature 2 3gb graphics card is that matters

In the end it's up to you but in my opinion 16 gb is overkill, 8 gb is more than enough for anything you could possibly throw at it. As for the frequency besides benchmarks you won't notice the difference for anything over 1866 mhz instead try to get a kit with the lowest timings possible, check the memory support list carefully because there are only 2 kits of 2400 mhz supported and none of them is Gskill
