Question Can someone please recommend an inexpensive replacement CPU?

Well over a decade old, closer to 2 decades old.

There is no replacement CPU that will work with the motherboard you have, that will run Windows 10.
32bit, 64bit...makes no difference.

You need a whole new PC.

Hmm, most later Pentium 4 CPUs should be capable of running Windows 10. However, even if you did install Windows 10 on your system, a Pentium 4 is not powerful enough to make the experience speedy.

What is the make and model of this PC?

If this CPU is an older Pentium 4 using socket PGA478, your upgrade options are basically none.
If this CPU is a newer Pentium4 using socket LGA775, you may be able to upgrade to an Intel Core 2 CPU of some sort.

It isn't mine. It may have been "pieced" together like Frankenstein. I read the name and model, right off of the computer case/cover.

It probably doesn’t support it on a bios level. Personally I’d try to score a dell t3500 on eBay businesses are getting rid of them for dirt cheap and they will last for quite a while if not maybe a local thrift store will have a newer pc atleast something with a core 2 quad for fairly cheap

Be very careful about a refub system on fleabay, that supposedly includes a valid Windows OS and MS Office for that price.

Just the actual shipping on that is $40 plus.

I would strongly recommend Dell Outlet or similar before fleabay.

It doesn't seem bad, although I would invest in something newer if at all possible.

The chances are that PC is about as old as your current one just with the better CPU installed. It may be possible to get the same performance out of your current computer with a $5 CPU upgrade.

Or you can get a 128gb SSD for $15 more.

This will give you pretty good performance and even alright CPU upgrade options to an I7.

I’ve had two of those with upgraded q9400 CPUs in them and they will do basic tasks ok but even YouTube video playback can be an issue sometimes just given the age of pc’s I’d stick with something like I said a t3500 or possibly a little bit newer dell optiplex like a 790 or 3000 series I got a 3020 for fairly cheap a while back I think it was like 60-70$ and it has a 4th gen Intel cpu

My dad has a p4 s478 that he uses for basic tasks, but it runs xp steadystate. I wouldn't try to put anything modern on such an old processor as it will run terribly slow, especially w10. You're in good shape with 7, just add reboot restore rx or timefreez and keep using it.
