So in December I plan to build a gaming pc and am planning to include an SSD.

At the moment I have a laptop and it could do with a quicker boot time. If i bought the SSD now and used it on my laptop for the OS and a few programs then could i reuse it in my PC build in December? Would the speeds be considerably/ noticeably slower?

I would also use it for OS and programs on the PC

The SSD I plan to buy is the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (or 120gb)

Thanks

I have a 120gb and nowadays that's barely enough just for the OS and stuff. I would certainly get bigger than that nowadays, especially if you want any programs or games on there.

As to your question, yes using it for the next 11 months and then reinstalling windows in a new machine would be fine with it.

128GB will be enough for windows 50GB or so, and some programs with room for a game or 2. Little room on the desktop for playing with.

256GB leaves you an extra 128GB for the desktop and some games. Consider that a 25GB game ISO must be downloaded to your SSD, mounted, then installed for another 25GB. 50GB required. 256GB is the minimum required with gaming.

When swapping from laptop to PC you would need to reinstall the OS and programs.
