I restored my windows 10 system, using macrium reflect.
I restored only the C partition, not the boot partitions.
Windows started up successfully.

But I had problems with the ASUS BIOS. It reverted to default settings, and the BIOS menu refused to open, even though I mashed the delete button at boot. Even the windows 10 advanced boot options were unable to get the BIOS menu to open. No matter what I did, I just got a blank screen, even if I waited 6 hours or more. The BIOS menu simply would not appear, and the fan would whir away.

I flashed the BIOS to the most recent firmware version, but that didn't help.
I spoke to ASUS support, and they said they think there is a problem with the BIOS chip on the MOBO. It is under warranty.

Can this problem be caused by restoring a system image, or was it just a coincidence?

Solution
OS has nothing to do with you entering BIOS and no, system restore has nothing to do with BIOS either.
Windows 10 advanced boot options apply to OS itself and again nothing to do with BIOS itself.
If your MB uses UEFI than you should have copied that partition too.
