Can T-Mobile relock a phone they already unlocked for me?

Solution

yes they can and they probably will. if you owe them money...
To be honest... I've never ever heard of this question before... I assume it's theoretically possible but I don't think anyone would ever want it? An unlocked phone means you can use it with any carrier, that includes the original carrier. Thus, an unlocked phone is strictly better than an locked one.

Why do you want your phone locked to a single carrier again?

I don't want it relocked. T-Mobile made some "error" and closed my account while I still had a lease on my phone (guess they'll stoop to any low to get money out of people). So now that I'm left with an unpaid phone and no service I'm worried they'll relock it to get me to resign with them or pay up fast.

yes they can and they probably will. if you owe them money on the phone (not the phone bill) then yeah they probably will do this, they are aholes. I believe there are workarounds though online.

I bought a sim card from Cricket and am going to try it when it arrives. Hopefully my phone remains unlocked; if not, I'll look into workarounds. I saw a site that seems reputable and charges $10 to unlock any phone.
