I need to run my PC at 4k. This will be my PC for awhile, until I replace the GPU later on.
I am running the Intel i7 Skylake 6700K (My other specs are on my posts)
But, I want to spring for the Geforce GTX 1080, but there is no way in hell I can afford that.
So, my question is, if I buy the Geforce GTX 1060, can I run 4k on just ONE monitor? I have to run 4k as I am a graphic artist and I do make tons of videos. I will only be using one monitor, not two.
I could wait and keep saving, but that is not preferable. I will not be doing any gaming on this computer, just art and editing.
I'm sorry guys, I am anything BUT a GPU expert.
Thanks! 😀

It will certainly power one 4k monitor, but whether or not it will keep up while displaying graphics intesive stuff is another matter. Depending on the kind of art and video production you do it could possibly slow down. Part of my job is editing video, and for me a graphics card isn't super important. When working in most editors a good processor is really what's going to help you most. I can't speak to graphic design though, as the only modeling I do is technical CAD work (which you don't need a graphics card for either really). I would assume it will be ok, but maybe not the smoothest/best experience trying to do things like character modeling on a 1060. Maybe spring for a used card from the last gen with more vram because I think that's where you may run into issues.

Believe it or not, but even the integrated GPU in your 6700k can display 4k. 3D acceleration for things like After Effects won't be so hot, but it's perfectly capable of running that resolution. And of course gaming is completely out for anything with 3D rendering.

If it were me, I'd try out using the integrated and see how it works for now. If you can get by, save up and see how the GPU wars go. 2017 looks to be an all out war between AMD and Nvidia.
