Can the intel i3 3225 use a pci-e 3 slot.

I am new to building PCs, and was planning on ordering a ivy bridge i3 3225, but I read it can't use pci-e 3 slots. It seems that every third generation intel motherboard that supports ivy bridge has a pci-e 3 slot. Will the processor recognize the slot and just use as pci-e 2 or something similar?

The pci-e slot(s) will run a 2.0 speeds. With current video cards there is very little performance difference between pci-e 2 and 3.
