Hey I bought a 1700 with an msi mag x370 motherboard and was setting it up for a data storage and gaming server for friends on minecraft modded x 2 servers, 7 days to die and probably other games.
So the build is a work in progress and was thinking of capping out the ram with 64 gb ram but am unsure if it'll work as both the processor says it will handle 64 gb but I cannot locate any section/information if it can work with 32 gb dimms and the motherboard itself does support 128 gb is this a black and white answer and just need to buy and put it together or is there something more I need to consider?
Posting the question separate as well just below
Is it possible to use 2 sticks of 32gb ddr4 g.skill trident z @3200 mhz on my server with a ryzen 1700 and a msi mag x370 motherboard?
reason for question is ryzen is dual channel not quad and I would rather put 2 sticks in then 4 if possible for that reason alone.
My current build for gaming/editing is
phanteks p400s
ryzen 3900x
msi tomahawk x570 motherboard
gtx 1070
g.skill trident 32gb (16gb x 2) @3600mhz
fractal design 360s water cooler
evga g2 750w gold
4 tb seagate barracuda (2 x2tb)
1 tb samsung 860 evo
512gb tb samsung 860 evo
500gb m.2 wd black
server build is currently
ryzen 1700
msi mag x370 motherboard
corsair lpx 16gb @2666
and is currently incomplete
looking to add 2 either 500gb m.2 ssd's in raid one for the gaming servers and redundant storage of either 8tb nas drives or 12tb undecided right now and going to use the phanteks p400s case and upgrade my system to a phanteks Enthoo 719 as my primary system case not sure if I want to upgrade to a 1300w evga power supply in my primary and swap my 750w to my server and pick up a gtx 710 or something that has 1gb vram and an hdmi port for a graphical display. also I am waiting for the new gpus before I upgrade mine.
sorry if my formating is terrible I just found looking at it easier to understand separated as I did it
