I thought RyZen would be cheaper and better than the Intel Kaby Lake equivalent but not entirely sure. Had to make compromises with RAM

A bit over, see if it suits you. After a year or two get something like a RX580 4GB and it should get better. Activate the windows later on... https://www.howtogeek.com/244678/you-dont-need-a-product-key-to-install-and-use-windows-10/

Those low end boards are pretty terrible for OC. I would suggest a slightly better board. Also Ryzen gets more value from higher RAM. I would rather get something like this...

^ go for 3000mhz ram, ryzen benifits fro high speed ram. also, i think the tessaract would be more apt here with more air flow and room.

use that little extra headroom to find a 3000/3200 ram. go for 1x8 now and upgrade to 16 gigs later along with GPU maybe? the 550w ts should handle a beefier gpu down the line 😉

The Tesseract case looks like some kid garbage and the airflow won't matter as the Corsair Carbide is good enough. Why the change from the Fractal Design PSU to the XFX 550W? 450W is enough for even 180W high end GPUs. I'm just asking as I don't understand these choices.

if u overclock ur 1600 and go for stress test, it can drink upto 100W. siilar to the 1600X. extra rams and overvolting gives another ~15-20. high end gpu under stress test is around 230w? that comes close to 430 i think. but yes, u should be fine with edison m. its only when u run stress test and upgrade ur rig u would feel comfy with a 550w.

What about this for $1200? (Cousin is asking for a range between $1000-1200)

I tried to fit 16GB but 16GB RAM would be $40 more

What about this? Just under $1200. Changed the GPU, SSD and RAM

Get this, Trident Z memory is overpriced, don't consider it unless you're going seriously high end.
An SSD can wait in your price range, better spent on upgrades now, some areas like the GPU and motherboard are lacking.
Hexacores for gaming aren't quite there yet, the 1500X is the best fit for this price range.

Not just for games and all modern systems should have SSDs. What are your thoughts on this?

Looks pretty perfect. You can go for it.

Problem with that build is still the motherboard being poor for overclocking and not so great GPU performance, here's an alternative that's much more balanced.
Chuck windows on top of this.
Better overclocking, better GPU performance.

My cousin will not be touching overclocking and he requires 2TB storage

That's okay, get this then, still much better performing. :)

Not really. The 3GB VRAM is a limitation.

How so?
Provides no limitation whatsoever, just better performance.
Speed is more of a concern than memory, in say 4 years 3GB and 4GB cards might start to get utilized to a higher level, but even for then it'd be perfectly fine.
VRAM doesn't determine performance, the 1060 3GB will be fine at 1080p.
If we're comparing VRAM it won't fare any worse than the RX 570 or 580, as long as there's a decent amount in there, which there is, it's fine.
