Can 1TB external drive be used to hold windows 10 OS on a Dell Inspiron 531

yes you can but slow. Is this a pc or laptop? I would rather swap out storage if that is the issue.

Can a Dell Inspiron 531 be upgraded to Windows 10 using a Seagate 1 TB external drive? or should I go with the motherboard, etc.

As I can't find anything about a Dell Inspiron 351 I think you might have mistyped it?

Is it maybe an Inspiron 531?

Ok so after looking at the Inspiron 531 specs, it appears it should work, but don't expect it to run super fast, because it simply wont. The Inspiron has very outdated hardware.

I don't exactly see what you mean with the external drive.
