Can this be right? going from stock cooler to AIO dropped CPU temp by 26 degrees?

My Ryzen 7 1700, stock cooler (Wraith Spire) is overclocked to 3.6 GHz. The CPU was 33 degrees at idle and 64 degrees at full load, with a pretty aggressive fan curve (100% at 60 degrees)

I installed the Cryorig A40 Ultimate AIO and repeated my tests. Now I'm seeing 23 degrees at idle at 38 degrees at full load. A 26 degree drop. Can this possibly be right? I haven't changed the fan curve yet, so the Cryorig fans are running fast and loud, but I'm flabbergasted.

Sounds about right, the Cryorig A40 is a pretty nice AIO and is the only one I'm aware of that has a fan over the heatsink/pump to help keep it cool in addition to the rad/fans. Just wondering though, which software are you using to check the temp? Also what is your ambient (room) temp?

I was previously using OCCT and the ASRock tuning utility to measure CPU temps but recently discovered that they were wildly under-reporting the temps. Core-Temp and HWiNFO64 appeared more realistic, and showed the higher values.

What you're seeing is not out of the ordinary.
When I went from a CM Hyper 212 PLUS to a Cryorig A80 (i7-4790k), my temps dropped almost as much as yours.

I tried Ryzen Master and it agrees with Core-Temp and HWiNFO64

With the fan curve dialed back to keep the noise at a minimum, I'm getting 47 degrees under full load and 33 degrees at idle. The room is 22 degrees. I'm pretty pleased.
