i have a new 1tb wdc blue and i am not using the slot to put it properly in my computer. it sort of hangs below my main hdd drive and i feel like this might effect it in the future. any suggestions guys?

Solution
an SSD can be hanging in any way. however, a HDD should NEVER be in any orientation that isn't flat or vertical. if the drive is at some angle, then the motor shaft is also at an angle, and will wear out very quickly. either the drive is flat ______, or it's vertical |||||, but never on an angle ///////

A spinning HDD needs to be bolted in. Yes, you can run it just like you have it....but if you ever bump the case, it might screw it up.
Or vibration over time will cause it to move from where it is right now.

Why can't you mount it properly?

So said no laptop, ever.

okay i will save up my money for 3.5 inch bay

i dont have a bay for the drive but thanks for the feedback

No bay?
Is this a desktop case?

you can use zip ties or tape to mount it flat or vertical.

laptop hard drives - are they known for incredible reliability? it's been a while, but i've seen hard drive spec sheets that limit the acceptable mounting to no more than 5deg away from horizontal or vertical.

Maybe he's hanging it from the ceiling tiles.

No, laptops are not known for any incredible reliability. But stating that using it at an angle leads to instafail is a bit off.

And the ziptie method is perfectly fine. I've done that more than once.

yes it is a desktop case. i can put it in the slot but it slants at an angle when i put it in

Then you're not doing it right.
Pictures would help on this.

nah its not. its a 3.5 inch hdd bay. do i need to get the clip on things to attatch to the side of my drives so that it can fit in the slots?

This depends on the case, but maybe.
