I have a folder on my western black hdd
which I have all of my family video 100s of them

I was exploring that folder and suddenly windows explorer stooped responding for 20 sec
im Not sure why but then everything came to normal

My question Can that damage the videos that stored inside my folder ?
I know viruses and bad secotrs can damage files
but if for example the hdd is fine and NO viruses
but for some reason while you was exploring a folder and suddenly windows explorer stopped responding can that also damage files ?
im Not talking about system files .
I have windows 10 64 bit on my SSD
No viruses or malwares

Maybe the hard disk is failing, maybe it was just something else.
You should IMO, use a google drive/dropbox account and upload things like photos/videos to that, so its permanently got a backup.

You can install Hard Disk Sentinel to know if your drives are failing - it's free for 30 days.

I see two drive related options for what happened. Either your PC froze because it was loading previews, or there is a damaged block on the drive. A pause like you mentioned won't damage the drive. But it might be already damaged. Run any utility you have to scan the drive. And of course back this info up. But a freeze isn't going to damage the drive.

my Western digital black hard drive is new

I run the western digital utility and 3rd one utility and the drive is ok no problems detetcted

so im sure something with my windows 10 that cause the hang

so a hang that was caused by windows cant corrupt videos or data right ?

I have my windows on my SSD

and my videos and data on my hdd
thank you .

yafatana, always have a good back up plan just in case. Hate to see you loose your family videos.

Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose. (one of them in the cloud)
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example).
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.

.... and backups of the videos and data on what? That was a hint... read the post above by the Seagate rep. Worrying about your files once you lose them due to a drive failure is too late, locking the barn door once horses are gone and all that.
