Can this run VR smoothly?

This is my first computer I've built by myself and am a little nervous on how it's going to turn out.If anyone has any opinions or suggestions please tell me them. Im mainly trying to build a gaming computer that can run most games well. I can answer most questions about the build if you have any. Also, will the CPU be able to handle the Graphics Card?

yes, you will get the stutter here and there. VR is very RAM heavy and by Ram I mean VRAM. I got the 1080 ti to solve this never have had a stutter. But that setup will Rock. IF you can find it in your budget for a 1080 that will be huge.

Nonsense. VR is comparatively light on VRAM requirements. I've not had any VRAM issues with a 4GB R9 290.

Nonsense. VR is comparatively light on VRAM requirements. I've not had any VRAM issues with a 4GB R9 290.

Thanks, that really helps. I originally had a SSD in the build but i took it out since it was adding a lot of cost to the computer. I might add it later on though.

a 290 for VR? you are high! I had a 970 and would get a studder. I tried my buddies with a 1070 and I would see it too. It only went away once I pulled the trigger on the 1080 ti. ED likes to use anywhere from 6-8 GB of VRAM.

It hits the official recommended specs and is way above the minimum requirements. I think you're the one who doesn't have any clue how this works.

Elite Dangerous does not actively use anywhere near that much VRAM, though it's possible it preallocates a lot of extra data if you have lots of VRAM.

Your VRAM usage is irrelevant due to preallocation, as I just explained above.

A Core i3 with an R9 290 would be smooth with ASW. But in any case that's not relevant to what OP is asking, since his build has a Ryzen 5 1600 and a GTX 1070. It will absolutely be smooth with that hardware.

That is why i stated that he will at times have a studder. Vr like ed use 5 to 6 sometimes more vram. Will it work? Yes. Will it be smooth yes. Will it copy frames to maintain the 90 fps and not be able to render every frame ... yes again.

Vram is not irrelevant. It is one of the major prices and performance marker of the gpu market

I didn't say VRAM is irrelevant, I said your VRAM usage is irrelevant. The game just recognizes how much VRAM your graphics card has, and then dumps a lot of data into it if there's a lot available. It isn't actively using that much. You can easily run Elite Dangerous on 4GB VRAM.

You sure are wrong.. just plain wrong that or you fail to see the difference between a rendered frame and a frame that was copied from the last frame. Either way you are wrong. From you idea a 1080 ti would be the same as a 1060 3 gb. To the op, a 1070 will run everything out there. It will do so with rendering 70% of the frames to your eyes. 30 % will be copied from the last frame. To some people myself included this causes sickness. That went went away with a 1080 ti
