Hello as the title of the thread suggests this is my problem.
I was gifted a PNY Geforce GTX 1080 OC Edition.

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133633&cm_re=PNY_OC_Gaming_GTX_1080-_-14-133-633-_-Product

And my current PSU in an older PSU, A rosewill Green series Rg530s-12. 80 plus bronze certified

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182199&_ga=2.57482024.34304330.1497027664-393475635.1497027663

Setup as is follows:
case is Corsair Graphite Series 780T Full Tower
I7-3770k (Not overclocked, default clocks)
p8z77-v lk
8 Gigs Ripjaws DDR3 ram @ 1600mhz
120 gig ssd (840 samsung evo)
and a 1TB HDD

Some background info:
I currently have a GTX 980 in here. It is a nvidia gtx 980 at stock speeds with a stock cooler.
Its uses two 6pin connectors and max power draw is around 150ish from what I seen. I've used it for a year.

I am not a total novice and my experience is telling me that the OC 1080 extra 15-25 watts will probably blow out the PSU.

So I guess my two questions are: If I set the 1080 to default clock speed and boost default
will I be ok?

or will I be ok anyway and dont have to worry

or should I just buy a new PSU?(My budget is limited I can afford to buy a PSU around $150-$200 CAD but that would be really stretching me financially right now, so keep that in mind)

thanks guys

Solution
Any system with either of the cards you've mentioned will need 520W so this will only be a mere transplant, if you will, but in all honesty you're going to need to look for a more robust PSU and with a higher wattage in order to give you headroom and for the sole reason to hold onto the unit for a longer time.

Over time and stress, the capacitors will degrade and the total power output will be far less than it's stickered number.

Yes the current PSU is 530w but it is also 4.5 years old. And it has seen moderate usage, probably on average 4-5h a day. and maybe 3-4h a day gaming, maybe more on average since when I played WoW it was extreme to say the least.
