I have an nVidia TNT2 vbideo card with tv out. My question is can I use the 15 d sub-pin, which is connected to the computer monitor, to display the desktop and at the same time I would like to use the tv-out, independently, to display only video clips or dvd movie. In short I don't want the tv-out to display the same thing as the 15 pin for the monitor. I just want the tv-out to display only movies when I execute the proper application. Can my video card do this or are there any out there that can or do i need a special program to do this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Clam,

I got a Matrox G450 that does exactly what you're describing. I have this in a system in my living room connected to a 27" TV and to a 17" Flat screen monitor. Not the best thing for gaming (it really about equivalent to the TNT2 for 3D), but for watching DVDs, Avis, and Mpgs, it's great. Basically, it's easy to set it where a video overlay on the primary screen (the 17" monitor) is shown full screen (with no or little black edges, this is adjustable in the drivers) on the secondary screen (in my case a 27" TV, but I think it works the same with a regular monitor hooked up). This mode is called DVD-Max mode I believe. I have this paired with a Hercules Game Theater XP hooked up to a 500-watt 5.1 Receiver for a real treat.

There are other modes such as spanning and clone. In fact, I have my system in clone mode, what's on the primary monitor shows on the TV. But if a video is played on the primary monitor, the DVDMax mode takes over. This is rather convienient, because certain players (*cough* Realplayer *cough*) have problems in initiating DVDMax mode...

If you still want to stick with the TNT2, I can't help you with that, cause I never messed around with the svideo out on that.

Good Luck,
Zitch

I've seen what your talking about done with Winamp3, I'm sure its some sort of plugin.

btw Winamp3 plays videos (divx, etc) now. YAY

The card in question only has one RAMDAC and can only process one image at a time. Even with the dual RAMDAC cards that display indepndently only one of them will be able to use 3d & mpeg 2 decoding features.
