Can Type 4 power cables be replaced by Type 3 Cables?

Hi! I have recently built a new Gaming PC, and I have a Corsair RM750i Power supply. I have a single GTX 970 and I am soon looking to add one more GTX 970. As most of you know, the GPU needs 1 8pin and 1 6pin. The included power cables are Type 4 and take up 1 of my 3 8pins on the back of my PSU and I need 2 of those to power my gpu, and the last one is used for the 8pin CPU power. Because of that, I've been looking into using Dual 6+2pin power cables, but all of the ones I've been able to find are Type 3. So I was wondering, can I use Type 3 power cables instad of my included Type 4 cables? I am also already 100% sure that my power supply will be enough. Please help!

You have four 6+2 pin pcie plugs with the rm750i. Two plugs on one cable and you have two cables. This is enough for a GTX 970 SLI.
