[SOLVED] Can updating BIOS lock you out of windows 10 or damage anything?

I recently discovered that my motherboard (ASUS MAXIMUS XI HERO) was a bit outdated, so I installed the lastest update onto a USB. When I got into flash utility 3 , it warned me telling me that I should disable bitlocker and suspend bitlocker encryption. Problem is I don't believe bitlocker is on Windows 10 HOME. I'm just scared of getting locked out of having some stuff deleted any help? Will I be fine to update?

Updating BIOS isn't something you can do on a whim. BIOS update, as such, is only viable when you know for a fact that newer BIOS fixes the specific issue you have with your PC. (E.g if i want to use Kaby Lake CPU with my Z170 chipset MoBo, i need to update my MoBo BIOS.) If there are no issues, there is no reason whatsoever to update BIOS. Just because you "can" update BIOS doesn't mean that you "have to".

Most MoBos never get their BIOS updated and work fine until they are obsolete. Also, do note that when BIOS update would be interrupted for whatever reason (e.g power loss), your MoBo will be bricked and only fix is MoBo replacement.

Updating BIOS is usually recommended to solve a problem with performance/stability or to improve compatibility with newer component. Regardless of having BitLocker encryption or not if BIOS update process is interrupted (e.g. power cut etc.) the motherboard might end up bricked.

Do you have a problem with your system that you think might be resolved through a BIOS update?

However, if you decide to process with the BIOS update, all you have to do is suspend/disable BitLocker encryption on the bootable/system partition prior to the update process.

Alright awesome thank you appreciate the knowledge! another thing is that it is a WIFI AC MOBO and sometimes I do have disconnections due to it. I've tested it and it's not my connection. It's nothing horrible but some times it does disconnect randomly which is annoying.

Well, disconnecting internet is the core of the wi-fi. If you want stable internet, use cable connection.
