Hello,

I have in my PC Gskill RipjawsX 2x4Gb 2133Mhz DDR3 and i have 2x4Gb Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz from a friend old PC.

My question is can i use this Rams together to have 16gb? They have diferent Mhz and Votlage.

Solution

You can - either throught the lowest common denominator (all running at 1600) or by overclocking some of it. I recommend you stick to lowest common speed or having them meet in the middle, like setting them all at 1866 and running memtest for a whole night.

If you're not using an IGP, RAM speed has far less impact on overall performance than RAM amount. As I said, you can also try to overclock them - about what voltage to use, I recommend you look at the 1600's chip modles and look for RAM sticks using the same chips and clocked at higher speeds, and find out what voltage they use.
Once you manage to boot them at the required speed, run memtest86 off a boot disk for a whole night. If it goes through, you're in for some stress test.
