[SOLVED] Can use some advice on purchasing a new monitor for gaming

Hey guys,

I just upgraded to a new PC but i kept my "old" second hand gpu - GTX 1070 ti. I'll eventually upgrade to a better one but i'm kind of happy with it's performance right now. My current monitor is a 6 years old 1080p Samsunng monitor. I'm using DSR to get a higher res at some games but i still think i should get an upgrade. The problem is i'm not sure i know what to look for. I know i want a 4k monitor but then there is color accuracy, refresh rate, response times, panel etc. I dont see a reason to buy a 144hz monitor because most of the time i find it hard enough to play at 60fps while maintaining a good image quality. I also dont think i should get anything bigger then 27-28 inch. I guess the most i'm willing to spend on a new monitor is about 750$. Any advice or a monitor you can recommend?

What type of games do you typically play?

Monitors are usually the least upgraded part in a build so get something that you'll enjoy for quite awhile even if your current GPU can't run games at the max graphic settings at the highest FPS the monitor supports.

If your games support 21:9 then I'd recommend a ultra wide as they give excellent gaming immersion. I'd look at a 3440x1440/100hz monitor that has Freesync (your 1070 ti should support the adaptive sync with the newest drivers and a DP cable).

Based on your budget this is what I'd recommend as long as your games support the aspect ratio and you can fit this monitor on your desk.

They look nice but i dont see anything that goes behind 1440p and i prefer to get a 4k screen.

Thank you for giving me a link to that guide! I hope i can get freesync to work properly with my Nvidia card.. G sync is too expansive right now.
Some examples for the games i typically play are The Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight, Metro Exodus, Gears 5 kind of most triple a games 😅

34" inch is kind of too big i think. Especially for PC gaming and i'm not really sure how i feel about curved displays.. is it really worth the price?

That LG screen looks really nice but it has a 5ms response time.. does it really matter when gaming? 5ms vs 1ms

There is no gpu that can run 4K at "acceptable" frame rates. This is game title dependent but look at what people are saying on-line about 4K.

1440p looks great and doesn't kill your FPS.

Yeah that is kind of true but i will upgrade the gpu in a year or two and i dont want to replace the monitor. I can actually think of one game i would love to replay at 4K 30fps and that is Batman Arkham Knight. 60fps just feels and looks bad because the port of this game is bad. Also it has really really bad aa so 4K will be an amazing upgrade

I really need a new monitor hope i can find one for a good price. I guess i dont need to worry about a hdmi 2.1 connection right? PS5 and Series X probably wont be able to make much use of it and that is probably also true for PC gaming

I doubt it will, it really takes a really fast paced game to notice and this would be if you had a 1MS & 5MS monitor next to each other.

Its probably the best option to get 1440p IPS display. i opened another thread of the subject trying to finally decide on what monitor i should get. I realized 4K is just too expansive right now. Too much money and too much performance from the gpu.

I like that one as well, I've always been fond of LG displays. Never had issues and usually they are well setup even right out of the box.
