It says you can install AM3 processors on AM2+ motherboards (assuming it has a bios update to support it). You said you have an AM2 motherboard, not a AM2+ motherboard.

Its not rocket science is it.

Probably not but you could just check the CPU compatibility chart on your motherboard manufacturers website. It'll give you a list of all supported CPU's and which BIOS version is required to use it.

No you cant (mostly). There was a small amount of motherboards that had DDR2 and DDR3 slots, but they were special.

There are a very few motherboards that support both DDR2 & DDR3, this is one of those questions that I'm going to have to say to look at the motherboards site again to check compatibility.
