Can WiFi modems interfere with monitors

I have a Samsung monitor connected to my PC via DVI (digital).
Every now and then the screen goes blank for about 2-3 seconds without warning and this is very intermittent (might not happen for an hour and might happen a few times within a few minutes).
It also does not matter what application I am running nor does it matter if I am using the mouse/keyboard or not.
This did NOT happen when I had the monitor connected via VGA (analogue cable).
I have read somewhere about electrical interference and I am wondering could the ADSL2 wireless modem be causing problems as it is directly below the monitor on my desk.?
If in fact it is possible that it is causing problems and apart from trying to locate it further away from the monitor is there anything else I could do to prevent interference?

Solution
I've had mine on the floor for years when I kept it in my room. I've kicked it and stepped on it and it was fine. The only issue I've ever had was when I accidentally pressed a sync or pause button of some sort with my toes and easily fixed once I figured out what happened.
You could try just playing a game offline or running a program without internet and with modem off to test this.

However, my bet would be a bad cable or connector. Is there a reason why you can't switch back to vga if you have the ability?

My new video card only has DVI and HDMI outputs and the monitor only VGA and DVI inputs.

I might try a new DVI cable as I had the same problem with the older video card (using the same DVI cable) which had both VGA and DVI outputs and I switched to VGA just to stop the problem.

As the problem happens completely intermittently (might not happen for an hour) I don't have the time to play around by turning the wifi modem off to see if it makes a difference.

I have temporarily moved the wifi modem from directly under the monitor to a place about 10 inches from the left side of the monitor. So far no blank screens so I will keep an eye on that too. I guess the modem could go on the floor too.

Well quite by accident I found what the problem was. I had BOTH a digital and analogue cable attached to the monitor. Only the digital cable was connected and I have no idea why there was an analogue cable attached to the monitor.
Once I removed the analogue cable the monitor had no problems.
