Can Windows Explorer highlight the last used media within a folder?

Hey there guys!

I've got a media PC hooked up to an antenna and to cable, with a pair of adapters to use it as a DVR. It's a wonderful solution on the hardware side, but I'm dissatisfied with it on the software side.

I haven't found any kind of DVR program that can record a program and put it into a folder based on what program it is, even with manual adjusting of settings for each record order.

That means that I've got a whole mess of recorded video files sitting in one folder. Now, I can sort these out manually, and I do... but then I just use VLC to watch them with. Now here's where the tricky part of my question comes in:

When I go to a folder for a show, because I don't want to get rid of old shows, I often am lost at what video we watched last. This is particularly exacerbated when going back and re-watching old seasons.

Is there any way, either natively or with a non-invasive program, to simply have a folder containing video, audio, pictures, or whatever, highlight whatever media was last played from said folder?

I know that's a bit of a tall order, which is why I'm asking you guys, but it would mean not having to open up five episodes and check the middle of them to find the one we haven't watched yet.

Thanks,
Darksable

I came across it in another thread here and thought it would help at home. We has different software for each TV and with 2 PC's used as servers it became untidy choosing which input to use on the TVs. Plex is a bit hard to understand, but in the end is now working pretty well.
