Solution

No you can't. You can buy it from the App Store or you can take your Mac to an Apple Store, but you can't buy it on physical media (from Apple).

Solution

In that case you have a pirated copy. Yosemite is supplied with a non-transferable licence. And if your friend is running OS X in a VM (not on a Mac) then that copy is also pirated.

I don't know anyone with a mac yet I found this.

I didn't take his copy. I logged into my apple id through his vm and downloaded the Yosemite I have offered for free with my last mac air purchase. condescend elswhere mchenry.

Why didn't you just download it on your Mac Air? :??:

Back to square one. You don't own a Mac so the Yosemite download is illegal.

It's quite simple: if you own a Mac you can legally download OS X. If you don't, you can't. It doesn't matter whether you never bought a Mac, you sold your Mac, you gave away your Mac, or your Mac was stolen. No Mac, no licence to download.

(Pardon the condescension. 😉)

i dont care. go argue your virtues with someone who does in the Tom's Hardware hackintosh community. and, for the record, square one was me refuting your ignorant assumption that I copied someones pirated version of osx. I pirated my own license and built a stunning pc around it.

As long as if I don't get in trouble with police I'm fine I don't care for Apple

Where did you pirate it?

I signed into my apple id from a friends computer and created a bootable copy of Yosemite from the app store. If you'e building a hackintosh I suggest going to the TonyMac site as they have detailed guides.
