Question Can you get 1gig WiFi download from a home router?

I currently have Frontier fiber 1gig service. They gave me EERO Pro 6 routers, two in a mesh. My hardwired computer shows 1gig, up and download, but on my Apple devices, the max I get is around 500 meg up and down On Wi-Fi.

Can you actually get 1gig up and down from a Wi-Fi router? If yes, which ones can do it?
 
are your apple devices supporting WIFI6 over wifi?
theoretically your router is supporting up to 9.6 Gbps. In real life in really good conditions, 2Gpbs.
So if the wifi has a really good signal you should get the 1Gbps on your wifi6 device
 
I do have 0ne iPhone 15 Pro that is Wi-Fi 6. When I go into the EERO router it shows Wi-Fi radios as 2.4, 5 Low and 5 High. But no 6 settings. Am I missing something?

I saw on the EERO webpage that Wi-Fi 5 maxes out around 500mb and Wi-Fi 6 can go over 1 gig. Is this correct? I also saw they are selling Wi-Fi 7 devices.
 
On the 9to5MAC site it showed this router as very good , AmpliFi Alien, along with the Linksys Velop. Has anyone used these? Or should I just look for a Wi-Fi 7 router.
 
Yes they are selling wifi7 but you have to buy a new phone/tablet. It is the same reason you do not see "6ghz" settings. You must have wifi6e to do that.

The wifi numbers are all smoke and mirrors. They have many layers of deceptive numbers that make up the speeds. One of the largest is wifi is half duplex. They are adding the transmit and receive numbers together even though it can't actually do both at the same time. If we use the same marketing deception on a ethernet cable we would call it 2gbit....ethernet though can actually send 1gbit and receive 1gbit of data at the same time.

There are many other factors. Most portable devices do not have 4 antenna so they can't use 4x4 mimo. Even them mimo is a lie you can't send 4 overlapping signals and expect them to not interfere so you do not get 4 times the data throughput.

Most wifi devices are designed primarily to be portable. They use smaller and fewer antenna to save space. They use lower power radios to conserve battery. All those are a trade off of performance for portability.

Maybe you need to step back and determine why you need a bigger number. Having more bandwidth, say above 30mbps, does not make netflix run better. It does not make web pages load faster. It really only allows you to download large files faster. Unlike a desktop pc portable devices do not have a lot of storage. It is not like you are downloading 20gbyte games to your phone.

I guess I was thinking that I was not getting my full 1gig service that I am paying for. That is why I was searching for the larger numbers.

No!!!
The EEro pro 6 is not 6E. So that means 5ghz wifi. The Iphone Pro 15 has a 2x2 wifi antenna and a 5ghz wifi 6 connection rate should be 1200mbps for a 2x2 connection. However, wifi is not full duplex, so the real world download speed should be around 600mbps with 160mhz channel width give or take depending on protocol overhead. Most routers will use 80mhz channel width for 5ghz, so 500mbps is sounds about right. If you had a more advanced router and did some optimization, you could expect about 600mbps normally with wifi 6.

Ethernet is FULL DUPLEX so a 1000mbps connection rate will actually let you download at 1000mbps. But Wifi is half duplex, so 1000mbps connection rate will real world be around 500mbps.

I have gigabit fibre and an Eero Pro 6 provided by my ISP, and if I stand right next to it with my phone (FWIW it's a Xiaomi 11T) I get about 800Mb/s, and using my laptop in a nearby room it tops out at around 700Mb/s, so I would have thought you should be getting more than 500Mb/s. (Also I hate the Eero - no web interface just a stupid app, a paywall, and only one free ethernet port is ridiculous.)

The EERO Pro 6 has a 4x4 wifi radio for the 5ghz band. The Xiaomi 11T doesn't list it's internal specs for the wifi radio, but it likely has a 3x3 radio to achieve that speed. It would be able to hit the full gigabit speed if it had a 4x4 radio. The Iphone 15 only has a 2x2 radio, so it won't achieve that speed.
