Can you have a dual monitor set-up with different connections?

I was looking into getting a BenQ monitor that has an HDMI connection. I am currently using a DVI connected, standard 19" display. When I get the the BenQ monitor, will I be able to have a dual monitor set-up even though it would be with 2 different connections? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

If your gpu/mobo has hdmi out, yes
