Hi i just brought a broken 1070 and found that a small SMD is missing, i know a little about the subject but i would like a pro's opinion please? I think its a small transistor that feeds the 3.3v rail from the pcie?

Any help/information would mean the world to me and thank you for anytime wasted helping a noob <3

Solution
How can you see any label?
The PCB designers conveniently left component designations on the silkscreen layer. Lxxxx is commonly used for inductors, Cxxxx for capacitors, Rxxxx for resistors, etc.

So those three gray components are pretty much certainly inductors to block noise on supply rails from crossing the PCIe connector.
I am pretty sure the 8th pin its connected too is the 3.3v rail from the pcie slot. I also think the missing resistor is stopping the controller for that rail turning on, maybe it needs to be pulled low by the resistor? not 100% sure but maybe a 0hm resistor would always pull it low and therefore fixing it for now??

That's my thoughts so far and i will post pics/video if i get it running. I am going to wait for some more feedback while reading a bunch of stuff i know nothing about online :)

Please any help is needed because i am not a professional

Thank for the help

I have worked all this out from an ebay image only, I don't even have the card in hand yet, so maybe when its here i might be able too find the resistors value 🙁 comes in a day or two

To any pro's, what would you do ?

Cheers for any time spent helping me <3

From what I can see, the component label L650, indicating it's an inductor not a resistor.

Anyway - when you happens to deal with a missing SMD component, you need to make out a solution for these problems:
  • You need soldering skills, and also proper equipment (a huge 300W unregulated solder iron may just destroy the component). A soldering station with a tweezer grip is the proper tool for the job.
  • And you actually get to know the value for the specific component.

Hi Grobe :)

I have the tools, even a hot air station, flux and a good iron.
I am willing to learn and even have a couple other dead cards to play with, its in a easy place with not much around it plus i could use kapton tape to avoid killing other parts.

How can you see any label? we are talking about the same missing chip next to the text L8503 ? https://ibb.co/ZKgYv45

You also say it could be an inductor? would it be used to smooth the 3.3v coming in? a resistor there would seem silly to me and i also thought it might be an inductor

Cheers for any help with a very complex subject <3
