Can you install windows 10 on a separate computer?

Hello i have two computers, a desktop and a laptop. My desktop has windows 7 which i am happy with and want to keep for various reasons, and a laptop which is running Ubuntu. Is it possible to redeem the free windows 10 upgrade on my desktop but not install it and then install it on my laptop? I know it would be possible if Microsoft just gave you the product the key and the .iso for windows 10 and told you install it, but there dumbing it down and doing everything from a little installer thing in the toolbar.

Nope.

You can upgrade that single Win 7 device. They're not giving you a second OS for free.

This is according to everything I've read so far. Who knows....things may change between now and then. But I doubt it.

Usually a laptop has the COA sticker on the bottom. Just install windows on the laptop again? Might want to do that sooner rather then later so you can reserve your copy.

I'm happy with win7 on my main desktop as well, but as with Win7 I'm (being forced to?) upgrading to win10. Was the only way to get DX10 and avoid Vista, and this is how you get DX12. Thankfully win10 seems like a good OS. I had no problem upgrading to win8 if I had to, but there simply wasn't a reason to spend the money on 8 when it didn't add anything over 7.
