can you mix ddr4 ram

okay so I have a stick of ballistix sport lt 4gb and i want to upgrade to 8gb so i decided I wanted to go with some cheap g.skill ram can i mix them?

You honestly won't know till you try them together. Mixing or adding is hit and miss even if identical.

Best to purchase a full kit: Don't Mix.

Only RAM sold in kits are guaranteed to work. The controllers are super finicky and need to work well together, so the manufacturer tests them prior to purchase. For that reason, even the exact same RAM (brand, speeds, voltages, size) may not work if it is not sold in a kit.

You are trying to save money by buying another 4gb stick, but consider what you will do if they don't work together. You will be in the exact same boat except with two sticks instead of one.

you will buy a kit if you know what's good for you.. so, you don't end up with two incompatible sticks.

I never had problems mixing low speed memory like 2133. The worst that can happen is it won't boot. I wouldn't buy another 4gb just to find out it doesn't work. Get a 2x4gb kit. They are extremely cheap and sometimes cheaper than 1 4gb stick.
