SDRAM Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory is the memory on the DIMM.
mixing ram speeds and manufacturers is tricky, it may work or more likely it will not work. mixing DDR3 1300 with DDR3 1600 can cause issues. Ideally you want them to be matched sets, alternately you want them and the timings to match as close as possible.
DDR and DDR2 will not work together
DDR3 and DDR4 will not work together, and so it goes stay with the same type and speed.
I suggest Replacing RAM rather than adding RAM, even the same brand and speed modules from the same assembly line may not work together. Matched sets are matched and pretested for this very reason.
