I read some threads today about computer destruction. They were very amusing. Then I was thinking:

If you went into a BIOS, could you overclock it indefinitely?

Lets say I had a(n original) Pentium. Before the Pentium Pro. Lets say I also have a 9001 watt PSU. Could I overclock it to 32768 GHz? (Don't worry, I am not trying this.)

What about an Intel i5?

What if I (not actually going to do this) installed coreboot, BUT coreboot was so OP (I could overclock to Infinity GHz). Could I destroy a CPU (and possibly me, but again, not going to try this) if I put the frequency at 195932162 GHz (0xBADB002, sure will be), with no fan?

Note: just for the amusement.

P.S. I am a newbie. I am also a known-for-asking-ridiculously-insane-questions-type person.

Thanks in advance.

Short answer, no. The CPU will either become unstable and not run, over volt and fry, or melt from the heat looooong before that kind of speed is reached. The world record stands at around 8700 mhz, and was done while the CPU was submerged in liquid nitrogen. But hey, feel free to grab a few $300.00 dollars processors and give it a whirl. :)
